What is the In-Work Support Service?

The In-Work Support Service (IWSS) is a Welsh Government funded initiative delivered by RCS Wales.

It provides fast, free, and confidential access to therapies that help you stay mentally and physically well at work. This service is designed for individuals who are experiencing mild to moderate health concerns that affect their ability to function in their job.

Through MindKey Therapy, you can access support such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-Focused CBT
  • EMDR Therapy
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

Sessions are led by our qualified, and experienced therapist Emma Gough.

How the Process Works

The referral process is simple and confidential. You do not need a GP appointment or a formal diagnosis to get started.

Follow these easy steps:

  • Visit rcs-wales.co.uk/iws-referral
  • Complete the secure online referral form
  • RCS Wales will contact you to learn more about your situation
  • You will be matched with a suitable therapist from the provider list
  • You will receive an initial assessment and begin your sessions

Therapy sessions are typically held via secure video call or telephone. In-person appointments may be available depending on your location and need.

All information is kept confidential and your participation will not affect your employment status or record in any way.

Therapies Available at MindKey Therapy

We offer a range of evidence-based psychological therapies. Each is designed to help you manage emotional distress, improve resilience, and regain confidence at work.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Helps you recognise and change unhelpful thinking patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and stress.
  • Trauma-Focused CBT
Designed to support individuals recovering from single-event or complex trauma, helping reduce flashbacks and emotional triggers.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
A structured approach using bilateral stimulation to help reprocess distressing memories and reduce emotional reactivity.
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
Focuses on helping people with multiple traumatic experiences to construct a coherent life story in a safe, structured way.

All therapies are delivered by Emma Gough, a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and EMDR Europe trained practitioner, with over 15 years’ experience.

Client Scenarios

Here are typical examples of how this support might be used. These are anonymised summaries, not testimonials.

  • A self-employed graphic designer feeling overwhelmed by workload and finances accessed CBT to manage anxiety and improve coping strategies.
  • A charity worker struggling with sleep disturbances and trauma following a workplace incident used EMDR to reduce distress and regain focus.
  • A part-time administrator with chronic stress used Trauma-Focused CBT to address feelings of burnout and restore work-life balance.

Support is tailored to each individual. The service is flexible, compassionate, and built around your personal goals.
