Frequently Asked Questions

It takes a couple of sessions to understand the problem. I’ll spend at least the first 2 sessions understanding your difficulties by completing an assessment or your needs.

CBT is a very practical psychotherapy, there will often be out of session work that helps to consolidate work done or set up the forthcoming session. Ensuring you are motivated and committed to engage in therapy is helpful. There is no out of session work involved in EMDR or NET.

Allow 60 minutes for CBT sessions. Depending upon the stage of therapy, EMDR and NET sessions can range from 60 –90 minutes in length.

Sessions are offered either online via MS Teams or face to face.

The first session can often be daunting, if you would like to bring someone along to the first session it may help you to feel more comfortable. When treatment starts this will be on a 1:1 basis.

Sessions can vary according to the complexity and nature of your difficulty. We are all different with our own stories. You may need 6 sessions, more typically 12-20 sessions, sometimes possibly more

The information you share during therapy is strictly confidential. The only time I will need to break this confidentiality is if I feel your safety and wellbeing is at risk or the safety and wellbeing of those around you.

Initially they are weekly to maintain momentum and efficacy of therapy. They can then move to fortnightly if appropriate to meet you therapy goals

Don't Know What's Wrong?

Sometimes we don’t know what is wrong or why we feel the way we do, we don’t know it’s anxiety, depression or PTSD; we just know our symptoms which can be anything from physical anxiety symptoms of sweating, feeling shaky, shortness of breath, to feeling numb and empty.

You may have negative thoughts going round and round, you may feel super alert and on edge all the time, you may be restless, you may have flashbacks of events, nightmares and relive things that have happened to you or things that you have witnessed.

During the assessment process we’ll work together to understand your symptoms and determine the most appropriate therapy for you.
